Paid over £60 k for my SD July last year. Was offered only £45k last week so, at least for me, only £15k depreciation after 3 years is unrealistic.nozydog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:35 amI disagree that a new one will depreciate by £25k... unless you spend £100k on a fully loaded turbo! Depreciation, according to all sources I've researched, is around 25% after 3 years so only £15k on a £60k car...Ray G wrote: ↑Thu Oct 11, 2018 6:17 pm If you trade-in and buy a new one then after 3 years that new one will depreciate by about £25k. If you keep the current one it would depreciate by about £15k.
I'd keep the current one if you are happy with it, skip the 1.2, put a very early deposit on a nominal 2.1 model then decide which one once the line-up is announced.
Much in line with SAC1 really.

Me too. I lost more than £15k in 15 months on a £60k Macan.Ray G wrote:Paid over £60 k for my SD July last year. Guys, you are driving premium gas guzzlers... is depreciation such an important part of your decision making? Porsche is an indulgence, to press our caveman buttons, not an investment.
If you intend to get an investment car then look at the classics.

Diesel not a gas guzzler, just an emissions nightmare.Pivot wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 2:21 pm Guys, you are driving premium gas guzzlers... is depreciation such an important part of your decision making? Porsche is an indulgence, to press our caveman buttons, not an investment.

Depreciation definitely part of the decision making process when I am trying to decide if I trade in and get the facelift or wait for the Mk II (I'll wait).
The indulgence was buying a Porsche in the first place.

Obviously options play a huge part (you generally don't get much, if any, return on these) Paying over £60k on an SD suggests over £12k of options!Ray G wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 12:28 pmPaid over £60 k for my SD July last year. Someone above suggests Porsche is an indulgence so are we really concerned about residuals.... I certainly am! High residuals suggest a rare and high quality car and I think it's actually the options we choose that are the indulgence!
All online valuation services suggest a minimum £35k return (and I'm talking bottom book trade value, not retail re-sell value) after 3 years on a Macan (any engine) originally costing £50k list price (before options).... It really seems it's the options where Porsche buyers lose out. That's why I'll be going light on options when I order, maybe £4k max!
If you flip your cars every 2-4 years I can see the concern for depreciation.
When I buy a car I typically select what I really want and I keep it for 5-7 years, but I buy what I am willing to drive until wheels fall off! So, residual was never a constraint.
(un)Fortunately, there was always a new better car that I really neeeded! Since I amortise my cars over 5 years, and my best car I held for 7-years, and I don’t have a Cristal ball to see what second hand market will do in 5-7 years, whatever I get is a bonus.

I’m just surprised anyone could ever think that owning a car could ever be an investment
