Can’t agree with above comment. Sports / sports Chrono do nothing more than you can do yourself using manual mode. No more power, no more torque, just makes it easier to access if you don’t want to use the g/box yourself.

James, did you try a heat cycle on the brakes or not? Irrespective of the service advisor’s attitude, this us a known tried and trusted fix (which dealership technicians will carry out.....and then charge you.)

My first SD squealed at low speed when stopping which I cured (for the 9000 miles I owned it) My GTS (2 yrs / 21000 miles) has never squealed after I carried out a heat cycle at around 1200 miles / 1 month.

Hi Macananon.

No, no sports chrono, it’s a little flat in comparison to other Macan SD’s I’ve driven and that my issue, did not show up on test which, yes, was lengthy! Sports is generally better, but it just lurches a bit. To be fair, it’s better now it’s running on premium diesel.

On a motorway it seems fine, just low speed it’s a bit jerky and uncomposed. Perhaps I will get used to it...

Paul, thanks! I’ve tried repeated runs of heavy braking and also holding them on moderately in a low gear with a lot of throttle to get heat into them. Made zero difference unfortunately. Is there another method? Will have a search now. Regardless of this why the hell do I have to do it, but that’s another matter... when I know I will try it depending on what the dealership does too. If they can’t fix it I’ll do it, either by managing to solve it or another brand of pads.

The 'classic' fix for persistently squealing brakes is to remove the pads, abrade the pad surface to remove embedded dirt and glaze, then apply a light smear of high temperature grease to the back of the pad. Some brakes have anti squeal shims between the pad and the piston. Don't know if the SD has these but the shims, if fitted, should be cleaned and lightly greased too.

To be fair I don’t mind massively it will be sorted, but the service advisor was a condescending shit which got my back up. Anyone else had this attitude at their OPC? To be fair no-one driving these cars is likely to be thick, as they cost so damn much you have to have a pretty good job, no? Therefore don’t treat me like a idiot.

Please tell me if I’m being unreasonable or if you have had the same issues!

Rant over, apologies if I offend. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

But I’ve never had this service even with Mercedes and BMW who can be notoriously bad....
All comes down to individuals. Our local OPC has had a few poor quality service advisors over the years and a few very good ones. All luck of the draw regardless of brand. As for associating cost of car with owner intelligence, my experience shows little correlation. There are no shortage of idiots around with plenty of cash to spend!

James, I bought my SD from Bolton and they have been ok. I discovered a cracked AC switch and they change the whole bank of switches . I would write to the dealer principal outlining your concerns with a copy to Porsche GB. The Bolton dealer is part of Stratstone who are renown penny pinchers.

After the initial 'Ooh I own a Porsche' glow had faded, you realise they are nothing special at all really. I use Porsche in Chester now for any issues, they are at least polite.

Evening all.

Thanks for the further responses. Indeed knuckle draggers seem to have little correlation to intelligence or income etc, I guess that was my temporary indignance coming through.

As regards Bolton, they have been a little reticent on their views. I have yet to fire a cannon up their ass.. may it need to though..,

However, Porsche South London have over the last 24 hours been outstanding. They spent hours and hours on our car, stripped a lot, repaired as required. They have reprogrammed the engine and box, updating software on both and changing response settings for throttle etc. They have actually provided a car that now drives like it should. After them working on it the brakes don’t squeak, it goes like a train (yes it is of course all relative), and it drives like the best I have driven. All issues solved.

Therefore a massive bravo to my OPC Porsche South London, the DP Chris in particular.

Let’s hope is all keeps working and I can enjoy it, with my other half (not my official car, a 40th present!).

Thanks very much for your intelligent input. Not so normal on other forums shall we say.

Best,

James

👍
Good news, just shows there are some tidy dealerships out there; you just need to find (and keep) the ones that work for you.

Completely Paul. To be honest I was astounded that they fixed it all, made it work and drive well all in one. Previous German experience has dictated they are usually clueless. Porsche South London have actually astounded me by their ability which usually equates to a specialist knowledge and top drawer ability. Bravo to them. No need for non official mechanics. 👍

On a side note. Hands off they are mine!

Exceeds expectation! -- shame that is usually due to previously having it lowered so much - Glad you have now found the service you expected from Porsche long may it last James :D

Macananon wrote: Tue Oct 30, 2018 10:27 pm Has your car got sports chrono? That's the only way you can get performance out of the SD similar to the BMW,'s you mention.

Sports mode is a little better then standard, but the pull is more torque than speedy in normal modes.

Surely you gave the car a good long test drive before you bought it?????

Ps. Acceleration past 90mph is really laboured.
And illegal in the UK
