Moving from my 4WD RR EVOQUE to the AWD MACAN, I just wondered what the feedback is regarding the handling/ capability of the Macan in snowy/ icy conditions?

Appreciate that having winter tyres is a massive plus but do many people really switch wheels/ tyres for what is usually a fairly short period.

I’m also told the new model has an all-terrain option as in the RR/ LR vehicles (snow/ grass/ gravel/sand).

How does AWD really perform?

It really is down to tyres. My previous two Macans on 20” Michelin all seasons performed well in snow but I suspect my current Macan on 21” Pirelli P Zeros will be pretty poor. I ought to really swap to smaller wheels on winter tyres for the period December to March.

Mine was on 20” all season Michelin’s and seemed to be capable of anything regardless of conditions. It’s the other idiots you need to be wary of!

I’ve recently heard from Macaneers in New England There was substantial snow there last week and they’re more than content with their All Seasons.

We switch to 18" winter wheels / tyres each winter. It's a habit we carried over from previous rear wheel drive cars.
Our stable:
- 992 Carrera T - manual - Ruby Star Neo - Carrera Excl. wheels (2023)
- BMW 240i xDrive (G42) - Portimao Blue - AC Schnitzer tune
ex: 981 Cayman GTS, Macan S Diesl, Macan Turbo, 991.2 Carrera S, 718 Cayman GTS, i30 N, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

I'm the same, the first time I used proper winters was with my first RWD BMW, since then they've went on everything even if it's 4WD/FWD.

20” wheels with Michelin summer tyres on my Turbo.

In the Winter they are OK, but only OK, driving style needs to be adapted to suit the conditions.

All Seasons are to much of a compromise imho, their vastly reduced braking performance in the dry should really set alarm bells ringing to snyone thinking of fitting them.

A second set of wheels with Winter tyres is the way to go if you are in areas of the country with extreme weather or you regularly drive into the hills
