I must admit that I am getting some wheelspin and slippage with my 21" on P-Zero Summer tyres if the temp is less than 5C. Oddly enough, my wife's Polo doesn't do that and that is on Summer tyres. I have never fitted 'WInter' or 'All season' tyres on my vehicles and never been stuck mainly because if it's snowing I don't go out. I fully understand the attraction of changing tyres but the £4k to change them isn't attractive, and then there's the storage.

Much less than that on my 911 Carrera T! And I found an OPC that stores them for free too! :)

Just because you have 21" summer wheels/tyres, you could go for a smaller/cheaper size for winters.

Or maybe just keep the same wheels & swap tyres over (if they do suitable N-rated winter tyres in 21" sizes).

In your situation I'd simply just get steel wheels and winter tyres for the Polo just in case I really had to go out!

Although you need to pay out an additional £4K (- seriously!!) you save wear on your summers so essentially your tyre running costs are the same. Assuming you buy genuine Porsche alloys there is always a demand for the larger sizes and you will get a significant amount of your initial investment back.

I had to do quite a bit of mud and snow last winter on summer tyres.

Off road seemed to work well and the only time I was slightly worried was when driving over a field where the water was flowing over the surface.

Next day someone got stuck driving to us in a tractor!

I have 21's on P-Zero Summer's and had a terrible experience last Saturday. Left home in the rain heading for Stirling but then in Glencoe hit the snow and ice, car was sliding about all over the place and had no alternative but eventually to turn back, I was absolutely terrified, car recorded 5 hours driving and traveled 170 miles.
Should have taken the wife's Panda. ;)

Cheshire Cat, prices are much lower than you think. Taken today from the Porsche Tequipment website:

18" winter wheels & tyres = from £1,949 including VAT.
19" " " " " = from £2,766 including VAT.
20" " " " " = from £3,664 including VAT.

No reason that your 21" shod Macan can't 'slum it' on 18" wheels for a few months over the winter. ;)

I bought a set of 18" wheels with Pirelli Scorpion winter tyres for £1800 from my OPC. They store whichever set of wheels not on the car free (not for free you'll notice ;) ). You might not like 18" but if you look at smaller wheel centres than your summer ones you could reduce the cost.

^^^ See my post above at 10.34am. ;)

My OPC store the wheels for free. Some OPCs have adequate storage facilities and some don't. Swindon don't and were going to charge me to store my wheels at the 'Wheel Hotel' at Reading, I think, but Tewkesbury have on-site storage for free, so I bought my wheels from them. :)

If you ask, most OPCs seem happy to offer a discount on parts, so £1,949 down to £1,800 should still be do-able (about 7.5% discount).
