Very much agree on using smaller narrower tyres as winter options, of course still using aproved sizes. Especially on snow, narrower is much better. Thats what I've always done. I had a similar bad experience with a Touareg on snow with wide summer tyres. The thing just didnt want to alter course or stop. A nightmare.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 10:34 am Cheshire Cat, prices are much lower than you think. Taken today from the Porsche Tequipment website:
18" winter wheels & tyres = from £1,949 including VAT.
19" " " " " = from £2,766 including VAT.
20" " " " " = from £3,664 including VAT.
No reason that your 21" shod Macan can't 'slum it' on 18" wheels for a few months over the winter.

I received an email from Design 911 yesterday with some winter wheel and tyre offers. Might be worth checking them out.

Guys although I'd decided against selling my 18" setup, if anyone was genuinely interested message me for a deal at £1250, they've covered 150 miles as the car barely moves. Wheels are the 18" set off a 15k miles car refurbished black, tyres are N0 rated conti wintercontact TS830P, tpms fitted are brand new with black stems.

!8" ain't going to happen. EBAY is full of 18 and 19" 'genuine' Porsche wheels and N rated tyres for not much money. It's not so much the dosh as the need. I've gone almost 50 years without Winter tyres on my cars and the only issue I had was doing a 360 or more in a Ford Escort on Cross Ply tyres one winter. Must have been the power from the 1.3 lt motorWing Commander wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 10:34 am Cheshire Cat, prices are much lower than you think. Taken today from the Porsche Tequipment website:

Not my advert, but I just saw these on eBay - AFAIK these fit all Macan wheel sizes and could be a bargain for anyone planning a trip to the Alps, covid permitting!

If you've never tried winters you have no idea what you are missing (or indeed talking about ). I run winters all year round and they are much better than summers or all seasons as an all round tyre. (Pun in there somewhere). They last longer too.
Hardly ever above 8 degrees in Scotland
Nicola and Boris permitting, I am due to visit Glencoe area in Mid April and if the trip looks likely to go ahead, my winter set won't be taken off until I get back.
With the cost of Macan alloys, it won't happen, but for my last two BMW's I found the overall improvement in wear rate by using a tyre roughly designed for the prevailing temperature paid for the sets of steel wheels my winters' tyres were on
