Hi All,

I have just fitted today my winters on the Q7 as we are going away soon to the Alps - this tyre is the same I used at my 2016 GLE which was also on 20" alloys - Continental 255 50 20.

I have initially made up my mind to go with 21"s on the Cayenne, but today at the tyre shop we've checked and my winters are still at 6.25 thread, which are fairly unused.

This lead me to think why waste this good tyres if perhaps they could fit on the Cayenne wheels for winter journeys - I usually run summers most of the year apart from when driving to the Alps for safety (and insurance reasons).

I have checked and the new Cayenne sits on

Front axle: 9J x 20 ET 50 with tyres 275 45 20
Rear axle: 10.5Jx 20 ET 64 with tyres 305 40 20

My question is: would the winters I have fit the Cayenne wheels?

Almost certainly not. And these aren’t on the list of approved winter tyres for the Cayenne. Your insurance company would probably not approve either, not just because of the size but also as you say the car sits on different sizes front and rear.

The Cayenne should have a sticker somewhere, usually the drivers door post that lists all the wheel, tyre sizes and pressures appropriate to your car. If the size is on there your ok and I wouldn't worry that much about N tyres for winters but I doubt there a size used on the rear, but possibly the front.

When mine arrives in March April, I’m going to drive it through the summer on the pzeros, and then fit N rated Pirelli scorpions for year round use, and then refit the pzeros just before trade in , in about 3 years.

I can't see those tyres fitting those rims FWIW, they are worlds apart.

Your buying a £70k+ car - why are you asking about saving a few hundred quid on old tyres? Sell them on and fit what you like, but I'd have speced 20" on the car anyway.

Just limiting waste tbh, against my principles to waste something where I don't need to. Can of course sell it and buy new ones - less about the money more about making use of what I already have :)

Your old tyres will have taken up a wear pattern for that car. So putting them on a heavier Cayenne will accelerate their wear. Best to sell them, perhaps on EBay and get a new set in the correct size and Porsche rating.

It's not going to work anyway, those tyres are miles too narrow for those rims.

I would fit any quality brand (Vredestein, Dunlop, Hankook) winter tyre, of the correct size, NO brand if available at a competitive price, even though I also plan to drive into winter Euroland. Limited mileage and less demanding driving in winter minimises warranty concerns wheel/suspension related problems.
