Hi All,

New to the forum having collected my car from an OPC on just before Xmas. Had meant to post in the introductions thread but this has come up first...

I purchased the car [2018 Macan 2.0] from Porsche Bolton on December 22nd 2018. It only had 2,700 miles on it as an ex. Porsche GB car, and I’ve since done another 450 miles.

In love with the car, and it’s been perfect up and down the country over Christmas, but upon getting back to London where I live I’ve realised that when stationary or at very low speeds there’s a very strong smell of petrol building up in the cabin. When I parked up and got out I could also smell it around the front of the car. Having had a quick look online I can see there was a recall on some 2017 built cars for this issue, but only seem to relate to S and Turbo petrol models...has anyone on here heard of a similar issue on a 2.0 car? And can anyone advise on how to proceed?

Understandably, I don’t really feel safe driving the car anymore until this is fixed, its only bearable with all the windows open.

Any help much appreciated,

Jon

Sounds to me like a call to Porsche Assistance is required, particularly from a safety standpoint.

Had Porsche Assist (the AA) out, and the guy said that because the petrol smell didn’t go into the cabin when the bonet was open there wasn’t an issue...so it was only after I suggested we sit in the car for 5 minutes with the bonet closed and engine on that he accepted he was also getting light headed with the smell.

They wouldn’t pick it up for a few days so I’m driving it into Porsche West London tomorrow morning (with the windows down all the way).

Really not what I wanted a week after spending this much money on a car from an OPC again.

Oh dear

Black marks for Assist and also even more black marks for Bolton who must have failed very badly in not undertaking a proper inspection where a fuel problem should really have been found.

I so wish that you had been here before you bought your Macan.

I am pretty sure we all would have said avoid any car with a Porsche GB history.

Porsche have a experience centre at Silverstone for buyers and wannabe owners where their cars literally have their necks wrung and are pushed to their limits and beyond from a few miles to a couple of thousands.

A car with a Porsche GB history may well have been one of these very cars.

^ But it may equally have been a demonstrator. I was under the impression that most ex-PEC (Porsche Experience Centre) cars went to Porsche employees as 'company cars'.
