There’s an old story from Michael Parkinson about his wife driving him back up to Yorkshire late one night in their new Jaguar XJ6. He reminded her that it was new and should be ‘run in’ so she should keep below 60.

He woke up to find that they were already back in Yorkshire which surprised him as he thought that he had only been asleep for an hour or so.

He asked his wife if she had driven carefully and she said that she had not gone above 40, pointing to the dial. He nearly had a heart attack as she was pointing to the rev counter and had probably been doing 120 mph all the way!
So when is this ‘old enough to know better’ supposed to kick in ?
