EV registrations in January 2019
1334
Plug in and hybrids including EV’s for same month
11,014
So not much of an impact so far, look at percentages and it looks different, so for EV’s registered in January 2018 to those registered last month shows a whopping 110% increase year on year. Cannot really rely only on percentages, they need qualifying.
SMMT sourced data.
Porsche registrations down 42% in January
ICE sales still dominate with 150,064 or 93.2% of all sales.
EV+ hybrid combined = 10,949.
Delayed orders caused by WLTP is a key factor in the overall market decline, plus the other well documented confidence issues.
Porsche's decline in sales is due to their most popular model, the Macan, not being available in the dominate 6-cylinder range in january.
Jaguar's sales in contrast were not in such a big deficit. One factor being that they are still offering diesel engines in their SUVs and cars.

Also, young people buy fewer cars, while senior citizens are moving on. Car is no longer a status symbol it used to be ... it is becoming an appliance. The EVs are only accelerating the process.

Slightly off topic is this really interesting article...but along the same lines as above a very telling phrase part way down:
“With regulators and lawmakers, rather than customers, dictating what kind of vehicles can hit the road...”

Very true and highly likely.
EVs will erode the ICEs hold on sales its the medium timescale that is the unknown.
Saw the first ad on TV today by BP saying that they are putting EV chargers in their filling stations.

May not be a bad incentive when many filling stations are also now supermarkets " simply food et al " can do your weekly shop and charge your car at the same time! Queuing is okay we are British

No need to queue to pay for fuel at the participating Esso stations. I pay through their Esso App on the smart phone.
Shell and others probably have similar arrangements which I did not explore yet.

BP do the same. Fill up and pay on the app while in your car.
Driveaway. It’s very easy and convenient.
