I love those robots. It's like they are alive! I have an old Sony Aibo dog from around 2002 which the kids like playing with, but it's a bit slow and clunky. I noticed Sony have recently revived the Aibo project again after many years.

Perhaps. Although, after recent SEC case (claiming that TSLA will go private), he is no longer allowed to make wild statements that would mislead investors. His timelines were always too aggressive, but did materialise few years later.
Anyway, now we know his direction of travel.

Autonomous will not happen until/unless the 'insurance issue' is resolved. Who is responsible in the event of an accident. Who gets sued; the 'driver/passenger'? the manufacturere of the vehicle? the software developer? the hardware designer? the vehicle owner? or a perm of all?
It is coming but until the above is grasped and legislated - not any time soon. A bit like Brexit........

Autonomous taxis have long been the goal of both Tesla and Google. And no doubt whatever other players there may be. The news here I think is the car share app. Now there’s a subject for discussion!

Volvo's approach would be to underwrite all accidents caused by their autonomous cars:
  • "In the event of a self-driving Volvo car causing an accident, the company would cover all resulting costs. “If the car is in fully-automatic mode and something happens and it’s proven that the car is responsible, then we’ll take full responsibility for it,” added Eugensson. “We will reimburse both insurance companies and vehicle owners"
