Macan Spirit

Post by zac1 » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:21 pm

Spotted this at the OPC in Spain - Porsche Macan Spirit. Apparently Porsche has difficulty moving the 2 litre new Macans in Spain where diesels are popular so they are offering 200 cars with a special package of equipment (pano, PASM, sport exhaust tips, 20" wheels, comfort lighting, red seatbelts and instruments and some other cosmetics) at euro 74,900 to entice buyers. This is said to represent euro 6,500 saving to a similarly equipped car without the promotion. Personally, I find attaching a Spirit badge on the Macan a bit questionable. (According to local press, Porsche Spain had a Spirit version of the 924 in 1988.) This follows last years promotion for the new 2 litre Macan where the first 200 customers received a 12% discount.

Just look at the number of 2018 Macan Sports still left unsold at US dealers. Macan Sport in the US is a base Macan plus $13000 of extras for about $7K or $8 k from memory.

I would have thought from that experience they should have learnt that demand for loaded base models is low.

First thing I’d do with a ‘Spirit’ is to de-badge it! ;)

Might be an ok deal if you planned on buying a 2.0 with (most of) those options.

That badge would cheapen a beige Lada.

Meanwhile in the U.K. Porsche made their dealers accept quite a few Market Introduction 2..0s which were fully loaded at £60k plus. Next time you are at a Porsche centre have a look around the back and see how many are still sitting in their compound.

The term you are looking for mark is “auto allocation”....

What manufacturers do to dealerships when supply does not match true demand....the manufacturer has a factory which needs to produce xx units a week to stay profitable, but the demand (whether genuine or legislation driven) is not there.....

With the new facelift Porsche U.K. supplied dealers with “market introduction “ vehicles which were mostly high specced vehicles at over £60k. Without heavy discounting I cannot see how these will be shifted.

Yes, the new Macan's at my OPC are really expensive, there's no way I'd spend 60k on a 2.0lt, surely they'll have to discount them to shift them?? Seems very strange to me.
