In view of the recent reports about impressive improvements to diesel engines and fuel I consider it a retrograde step by Porsche to drop their lovely diesel engine. I love my SD.

Emissions from one ship = emissions from 50,000,000 cars?!? :?

Wow!
That's one of the Big Boy cargo ships and they are too big to go on shore power so even when it's in port they are running diesel generators. Shipping was always a bigger polluter vs diesel cars.

There was a particularly smoky one delivering last month when we were in the Caribbean.

This one started in Japan then goes round all the islands dropping off a few cars at each stop, filthy.

Most of the big ships are really filthy. New regulations next year though which should help.

I agree that a smooth, torque rich Diesel engine is still a good choice for this kind of relatively heavy SUV.

It seems, from my admittedly not very extensive research (looking at Pistonheads ads), that 12 months on from Porsche dropping the sales of Diesels, the initial free fall of used SD prices has arrested somewhat?

Delivery is delayed as the car carrier has gone into "limp mode" on the way to sheerness

Re values: I bought my sd from the local OPC a month ago. For me the diesel made the most sense and importantly I think it’s the right engine for the car.

I also got a great deal because that car was coming to the end of their mandatory stocking period.

However, overall there appears to be little softening in diesel values in my research and if the pcp gfv (acronym city!!) is anything to go by, depreciation doesn’t look any worse than petrol.

Interestingly, both the opc’s I spoke to were actively looking for good used diesels for stock.

Of course none of us are soothsayers, but at the end of the day as we’ve all said, a diesel Macan still makes a sensible and desirable option for many people. Therefore and with the evidence of the pcp and the news the current model will stay in production longer, I’d wager that values will hold up well.
