Thanks - I'm on it, I've got some Bilt Hamber Clay bar on it's way in the postMikeM wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 8:00 am Fairynuff, totally agree with Riomacan if your going to prep any car, other than a new or newly painted car, decontamination is an essential first step to obtaining superior results.

Be careful as Clay barring is quite aggressive and shouldn't be done too often. You'll also need their Cleaner Fluid to get rid of small bits of clay that stick. I'm trying Korrosol fall out remover soon which will remove baked on particulates Clay won't shift.Fairynuff wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 3:34 pmThanks - I'm on it, I've got some Bilt Hamber Clay bar on it's way in the postMikeM wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 8:00 am Fairynuff, totally agree with Riomacan if your going to prep any car, other than a new or newly painted car, decontamination is an essential first step to obtaining superior results.

Just ensure the area you are claying and the clay is kept well lubricated, don’t press hard just use finger tip pressure, frequently turn and knead in to keep the clay clean and if you drop it on the floor throw it away and use a new piece.

If anyone’s curious I was just quoted this by OPC Exeter:
“The only treatment we can offer to be done on site and recommended by ourselves is the G-Technique treatment (I understand there are videos you can search for online to see the treatment working) this will give you the external Ceramic paint protection, the leather protection (including colourfast transfer to the leather) and the hydrophobic glass protective layer. We charge £899 + VAT for this treatment and work in partnership with Suds Law who are the only accredited company in the South West, your treatment will also come with a protection kit for you to use to keep your new car looking good for the long term.”
No further details provided... after reading this thread I am now a little petrified of doing it whether through OPC or independent detailed!!!

My car is due for delivery in late September and I’m looking for some advice.
I will be completely honest - I am not going to be one of those people who meticulously looks after the car and paintwork and I have next to no knowledge of detailing products and procedures.
I will likely give my car an occasional wash and sometimes take it to the dreaded hand car wash people. I will try to use the ‘proper’ ones rather the really cheap and mass market ones, but none the less I imagine this is still against recommended advice for those who value near perfect paintwork maintenance.
I would however like to protect the car from the worst of the elements and anything that makes it easier to clean is a good thing. I like the slick exterior look and the extras cited e.g. mitigating colour transfer to leather is attractive (I will have pebble seats!).
I repeatedly read that treatment like Gtechniq requires semi-skilled upkeep maintenance (i.e. more than I currently do on my current car).
Would you guys recommend Gtechniq (or indeed any other product) for someone in my position or would the benefits be lost on me? Would I be just fine with the car as it comes?
