When I collected my new Macan S on Wednesday I noticed the petrol gauge was showing exactly half full. I mentioned this to the SE and asked why the tank wasn’t full, she stated that Porsche’s policy is now to only give half a tank.....has anyone else experienced this?

Unless it’s something new, no. Full tank has always been the norm historically.

You’ll find out when you get the post-sale questionnaire. If they ask ‘Was your new Porsche provided with a full tank of fuel.’ that will give you a clue... ;)

Here's a theory written with tongue in cheek as I find it amusing to be talking about whether £50 worth of fuel has been added to £50k vehicle - half a tank being somewhere around 0.1% of the value of the car.
Is this amount of fuel related to how good a customer you are or the margin they are making on the sale? I am assuming that when the car was bought the model was listed on the contract, the options, road tax, maybe cost of number plates, trade in allowance i.e. you agree what you are paying for and the cost. If there is no mention of the amount of fuel in the contract it is surely at their discretion.
If you negotiate hard, do they just opt for the half tank but a full tank means they were more than happy with the deal you signed.
Of course the unwritten rule when trading in the car is to ensure it got back to the dealer on fumes. ;)
