Yesterday, I drove up to Peterborough from here in Surrey, at a steady 52 mph on cruise control on the M25 and A1(M) to see what I could achieve: I hit an average of 40 mpg at one point, but at the end of the journey it had come down to 37 mpg. Coming home this afternoon with cruise control on 62mph , it also averaged 37 mpg. Driving into and out of London on Thursday, it only achieved 25 mpg !
Blimey! Isn’t doing just 52mph on a motorway verging on the dangerous (unless forced to do so because driving on a space saver spare tyre etc)!? :o

Only time I’d drive at (an indicated) 55 mph on the motorway is during a stretch of average speed camera monitored roadworks.

Very unscientifically, every time I fill-up, the fuel gauge shows me a range of ~420 miles., when I look at the trip consumption, it ranges between 10-12 l/100km

Confusing data there - is it mpg or l p/km? 420 miles range or 676 km?

Cristal clear to me [emoji851]

I do like to know my vehicle range in miles, but I prefer fuel consumption measured in l/100km.

I am glad that Macan can display both, just the way I like it.

PS. I have 75L tank.

Well, back in the 70's, when driving up to Scotland from London in my first ever car (a 1100 cc Mini Clubman Estate). I drove at the minimum permitted speed on the motorway (a constant 40 mph), and managed 70 mpg between fill-ups ! No, it's not dangerous, just annoying to other drivers who have to change lanes to overtake - quite relaxing, really !

Wow! Only time I’ve driven that slowly on a motorway was when I had a space-saver spare wheel on my Volvo C70. I felt very vulnerable travelling much more slowly than everything else on the motorway, especially the big lorries, not to mention feeling a tad guilty for causing a virtually rolling roadblock when everyone else was doing at least 70-80mph. :o

Although one shouldn’t condone breaking the law, my personal opinion is that those driving way under the speed limit can in some circumstances be as dangerous to other road users as those driving way over the speed limit. :geek:

Good old days... Polizei used to take pics of slow cars on the fast line and issue them with DM1’000 fine for holding up fast cars on the Autobahn [emoji41]

I regularly do a 20 minute run under similar circumstances and consumption varies from around 20 to as low as +/- 18 depending on weight of traffic and weather.

Regular cross country runs of about 30 miles can deliver between 25-30 depending on the right foot and use of ‘glide’. The heavier the traffic the better the consumption!

Long Autoroute and similar trips have given about 26.
