apple car play noddy question

Sorry for the noddy tech question - please be gentle...

Anyone run google music through Macan apple car play using an android phone?

Porsche don't do android auto - I have an android phone and run google music and google home from there when on 4G.

I can run Google home/music Ok via blue tooth on my Merc C class, which does not have ACP or AAuto - but the interface is useless and voice control a joke.

Would I need to get an apple phone to play google music effectively on a Macan? Or could I load the google apps and run from droid phone?

Bluetooth OK? or by cable?

Would i need to (or is it better to) get a sim for the car?

any experience or hints welcome thanks

I use Spotify on my S9 connected via bluetooth to the pcm .. it displays the track info, pauses ect. But doesnt show track lists or allow searches. I also use Amazon music on the pcm inbuilt app. Much better fuctionality but tends to drop out more.

I've used a variety of music players on Android (Galaxy S8) via bluetooth.. Like above, you get track info and skip/pause but that's about it.
You don't have to plug the phone in to anything, though the S8's battery is so crap, I generally have to.

Most of the time I use an iPhone with CarPlay. Depending on who I am that day.
