I took my New Macan to change a tyre after bad puncture to a porsche dealer centre and took the car back and to my surprise the car was driven for 8 miles and when I questioned this I was told they were testing and calibrated the tyre and they need to do this with this 8 miles driving outside! And then received with minor body damages..

Is 8 miles driving is normal? For new tyre testing and calibration?
I never had such experience..
Thx

Perhaps if they were situated on a one way ring road.

Thank you davewf
That is what I thought and probably damaged the body there during tyre change...not happy with their shabby work.
Alloy wheel left full of black stuff glue on it too after changing the tyre.

I am awaiting their response to repair the damaged body coloured side blade.

Many thx

I think the driving after a tyre change may be to allow the Tyre Pressure Monitoring system to relearn the pressures.

I had both cars fitted with new tyres recently. They both took quite a few miles before the TPM system cleared all the warnings, so I am not surprised that they drove 8 miles. The 718 had a new monitor fitted at the same time and it took about 20 miles (from memory) to register. McCann took about 10 miles, with just tyres being fitted.

Had you taken it to Kwikfit, they probably would have let you drive away without the TPM system working properly and you suffering the worry that something else was broken. I was quite nervous until all the faults cleared so I say well done to the dealer for doing that piece for you.

This sounds like an appalling experience! Very sorry to hear. :(

I hope they fully repair the damage and give you some form of compensation by way of an apology!

It all sounds very suspicious to me. The TPM is reset by them and will then start registering again on your way home. I don’t see any reason as to why they need to drive it for 8 miles just to ensure the TPM is working.
