Future of the 911
What do people see the future of the 911 being ? In say 8 to 10 years ... ? Will it still be petrol powered ?

I'd have thought that it will be the last of the Porsche range to convert from ICE to BEV but it seems inevitable to me. Maybe the 992 will be the last ICE 911 but then would an electric powered 911 still be a true "911"?

Is a current 992 anything remotely like an original 911?
As long as it looks like a 911 then I'm sure that's marketing will continue to call it. Obviously it will not have a flat 6 rear-engine layout by then, so in that sense it will definitely not be a "911".
Anyway I think the next logical step for Porsche is to produce a hybrid 911 to cover the next decade.
In 8-10 years, I’d assume the 911 would by hybrid. Every manufacturer by that point will be offering pure EV’s but they won’t suit everyone or every lifestyle so market forces will prevail.
I’d also assume petrol may be banned outright in inner cities, hybrid is probably the only way forward for cars like the 911.

I'm hopeful that battery tech and especially the infrastructure to support 30 million electric cars will have advanced sufficiently so that range anxiety will be as much a part of motoring history as the man with a red flag who walked in front of those new-fangled motorised vehiclesAlfanut wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 2:36 pm In 8-10 years, I’d assume the 911 would by hybrid. Nah, it'll be four just to annoy the 'Purists'.
Dolomite Silver 'S' with red leather 14 way seats, Pano roof, Bose, Air suspension with pasm, Chrono pack, PDLS, Surround view, 911 turbo wheels, heated screen, spare wheel, ioniser,75 lt tank, black tail pipes, black roof rails.
Well a hybrid is on the cards for the 992.2 and the current gearbox has already been designed for it according to the service advisor I spoke to a couple of weeks ago. Surely the first step towards electrification.

As VanB says, the blurb circulated at the launch of the 992 explained that the 8-speed PDK has been designed to allow for a hybrid powertrain, so coming pretty soon, for sure.
I imagine hydrid 911s are already in development and being tested.
