You would think that it would be an item in the options list these days.
Totally agree. I'm surprised it isn't an option on just about every car. It would be so simple for the manufacturer to do, it would be a money maker for them, and loads of consumers would be more than willing to pay for a factory-fit setup.
At its simplest, it just needs to be a camera built into the back of the mirror, with footage accessed via the existing display. And an SD card to save it to. Something more complex could involve additional cameras for rear and interior views. Porsche could even reutilise their surround view.
#Pacemaker - photos of what you've done would be great! I'm keep to add something to my car, but don't like messing about with stuff in case I mess up or introduce an annoying creak!
Current - Macan III GTS

Mine uses the 'in arm rest' power socket and the camera OE ciggy lighter adapter. Once you get down the A-pillar and door seal, the cable tucks away in a panel crease/joint, under the dash and under the side of the centre console, up to the passenger seat belt clip and into the arm bin. You would have to look very hard to spot it.
The beauty of it for me, is that the power can be killed in an instant by pulling the plug out, so if the OPC frown at it (for whatever reason?), it isn't a problem.

Mine too. 5 minutes to fit. Heads up, Halfords selling latest Nextbase 4k at half price...it's a very decent dashcam.
Maybe right on fuse piggy back I just posted the above as examples, this is what I actually bought
Car Add-a-circuit Fuse Holder ACU Tap Adapter 12V 24V with 6 pcs Standard Fuse (3A 5A 7.5A 10A 15A 20A) and 1 Fuse Puller (4 Pack)
Just fitted rear view camera tonight and did exactly the same to drivers side fuse box, so one in each. During service I’ll just remove the piggy back units
Although I used piggy back connectors I used a spare slot so only used for my accessories. Combined with the 12v female means you actually use the accessories plug so it’s actually doubled fused. I prefer this to hard wiring
Oh, and I always wrap the adapter/plug to avoid rattles
