I am fully onboard with dealers and businesses making money, but it has really tarnished my view of Porsche. It feels like they won’t stand behind their product.

34k??? What age and mileage is it? I have just sold an Audi SQ5 (67 plate, 22500 miles) with a decent but not exotic spec (21s, pan roof, a few other bits) for £36k - in the trade. I bought it, in the days when discounts were harder to come by, for 54k. So 18k loss in 2 years.

I originally ordered a Macan GTS which was coming in at £66.5k. That would have to be worth £48.5k for same pound note loss. It looks like that would have been unlikely....
It’s a 17 plate, 34000 miles, and a good spec too (imo). Their reasoning being that “the market sets the prices”.

As I said, I’m not unrealistic but the trade in price only served to make me annoyed with them, especially as I was looking to get into another Porsche. Most recently I was very close to pressing the order button on the new Cayman GT4, but they obviously think they can sell enough of those they don’t need my business.

Those “allowed” to buy a GT-car at list price are indeed a select club! ;)

Did the OPC agree to accept your order and deposit for a new 718 GT4?

In principle, yes, but I was working off the valuation I’d had six weeks earlier (from the same OPC I might add) which was £48k so when he came back with £34k I literally laughed, we exchanged a few words and I walked out.

Hmmm - unless that was his way of telling me I’m not part of the select club [emoji848]

What?!? A drop of £14k in six weeks!?

I can guess at what some of your ‘few words’ might have been...!! :P

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion I'll be keeping my current GTS rather than change to the new one. It's going to cost too much to basically end up with the same car. Plus, I think the market will swiftly move to BEV making ICE cars very undesirable.

JonNic get a price from WBAC and add £4K which will give you a realistic number you can achieve on a private sale or Indie reseller. Unless your car has been trashed £34k is massively taking the piss

Nope VanB, the car is definitely not trashed. In fact what annoyed me more is at the second valuation one of the reasons they said £48k was because it was close to needing 4 tyres, which I knew and was happy to accept. In between that and the the £34k valuation I’d had the tyres replaced as well!

I have a good independent Porsche specialist quite near me, and I’ll keep an eye on their stock and look for the right spec used 911 rather than a new GT4 I think. I’m in no rush, still love my Macan, just annoyed with the OPC and don’t fancy putting any cash their way now.

I think timing is definitely part of the problem I’d had. SUVs seem to be coming in for a harder time than normal at the moment, and high emissions cars are not flavour of the month either.

Still, hopefully it’s no hardship to be ‘stuck’ with you me current GTS. That’s certainly how I look at it.

Dealers cannot expect to sell new cars if their px offers are derisory. Punters will just stick with what they have.
