Had my fab 2.0 litre petrol 2018 Macan for 27 days now, first fuel was Sainsburys super unleaded which is 97 RON. In the filler cap it says use 98 RON but struggling to find this. Filled up last night with V-Power 99 RON. Wonders what others on here put in theirs and what is generally recommended?

MPG average 25, I do mainly short journeys on busy roads.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

There are endless threads on here on this topic, all containing at least some bias, internet based myth and displays of a fundamental lack of knowledge (similar to those on running in). You're best going with the manufacturer's recommendations. The car will run OK on 97 or even 95 if necessary. I usually use Shell V power in my cars and bikes and always avoid supermarket fuel.

Shell V power my first choice. When once in MId wales and no Shell V power garage within range, I did fill-up with Tesco Momentum 99 octane. My preference would be always to go for fuel at least 98 and also E5 or E10 by the new fuel standards re ethanol limits aslo now shown on pumps and as specified on the fuel flap of 2019 Macans.

I find the instruction for 98 RON in this engine a bit perplexing as it is the normal VW 2 litre lump which, in my wife's Q5, specifies 95 RON. However, that being said I would go with manufacturer recommendation and Shell V-Power would be my choice which is what I normally put in my cars, although I'm not precious about the odd tank of supermarket super unleaded either.

As long as the nozzle is green, then it will be fine.
Many would argue otherwise, but 1,000’s of these 2l units drink nothing but the cheap stuff without issue.

But, as the timing automatically compensates, I suspect it impacts on the performance and/or economy.

Possibly technically correct. But what are we talking about, 1%, 2% under ideal conditions?

I guess the % loss depends on at what level one is prepared to compromise. Two years ago I was obliged to top up at a budget supermarket in France. Performance difference is of course unknown as we can’t accurately measure acceleration etc but I thought that consumption reduced by at least 10%.

The handbook recommends 95 for the 2.0. I've only recently bought my 2.0 Macan. First full tank was what ever the OPC put in it. Next tank I put in was 95 as recommended in the handbook. I think I'll try v power next to see if there is any difference in mpg and performance. I'm getting 29mpg on 95 on my commute which is a mix of everything!
