Hi Guys,

I hope you're all well. I've been living abroad for the past 15 years and next month will return to the UK with my family to live. All the years living away I've missed my fast / sports cars (as I've been living on a tropical island where the speed limit is around 30km/h) so decided to buy something nice on my return. Now originally I was going to buy a F430 for the weekends and a daily driver, but I'm getting on a bit now (42) and have had to grow up a bit and also consider my family. So after months of researching I decided to go for a Macan S which I consider a great compromise. :)

My best friend in the UK is a car dealer and just picked me up a 2019 Macan S (facelift) with 5000 miles on the clock. I saw it in autotrader the other week and he was kind enough to get it for me. So now it's sitting awaiting my return next month. I can't wait. :D

So my first question is - oil change. I always like to do this when buying a 2nd hand car as a precaution. I can do this myself easily, so just wondering where I can order the filter, crush washer and oil from online? I believe on the 2019 model the filter is located at the top of the engine and not underneath? I understand this model has the particulate filter, so I must use C30 rated oil.

I'll be moving to a remote area in the North Yorkshire moors and obviously winter is coming... The car I bought came with 21" alloys (it also has PASM) which I believe currently have summer tyres fitted. I think for the area where I will be living it would be wise to fit winter tyres (my parents who live there has been snowed in on occasions) for safety.

I read that smaller 18" wheels are better for the snow. So I'm wondering if it's possible to order some aftermarket 18" alloys and winter tyres online? I think this would be a good choice as I won't have to worry too much if I bounce the car of kerbs in the ice.

I'm very happy with all the extras the car came with, but unfortunately it doesn't have the reverse camera. I was wondering if anyone had ordered something like this that is supposed to work with built in display?

I'm just wondering if there's anything else I need to check on the car when I'm over next month? My friend said the car is absolutely in mint condition.

Many thanks,
Cinders.

I agree with post running in oil changes, then annually. Make sure you use genuine Porsche parts though, not least to avoid any warranty issues.

Design 911 are good for a wide range of items - https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt178_219_-cma81-cmo2824/Porsche/Porsche-Macan-MK2--2019---/Oil-Filters/
Although on the above link they don't list the filter for some reason. A local OPC or specialist will be able to help.

I also agree with the switch to winter tyres. I went with 20", the same as the summers, but 19" or 18" will give a better ride and performance in more extreme winter conditions.

I rarely use the reverse camera. I only ordered it because so many on here said it was 'essential'. In practice, if you know how to reverse and use proper observation you should be fine. A lot of the time the lens is covered in muck anyway.

Let us know your car's specification. Most of what you need comes as standard, although others on here will argue differently, particularly on 'toys', but a heated steering wheel is a superb option to have in winter!

Hey Nick, thanks for the reply.

Any idea if an oil change will affect the warranty? My friend said I should get Porsche to do it just in case. However, it's something I can easily do, i've done many over the years. I'm sure Porsche would charge a few hundred quid for it, when I could do it for a 3rd of that.

Winter tyres it is! I've just ordered a set of original 18" macan alloys from ebay for 400 quid, so will wrap them in festive tyres when I'm over.

You make a good point about the reverse camera, personally I haven't used one in 25 years of driving, The reason I ask is I'm sure I read on here that someone said visibility out of the rear is a bit poor on the Macan.

As soon as my friend wakes up and gets me the spec I'll post the full details of the car. Any idea how we can find out the Porsche build code so I can whack it in the website to see all the extras it has?

Thanks again

Self oil change won't affect the warranty but, as I said, must use OEM parts. I used OPC to do the changes and it is expensive. In the past I've always done my own but a combination of laziness and wanting a complete service record lead me to get them to do it. They will also check for service recommendations and recalls.

Yes, the view out of the rear window is restricted, but that's true of many cars and vans. What did we all do before cameras?

Not sure how you get a build code for a used car, but an OPC will be able to print a spec sheet.

I'm sure you will love the car. When I visited my OPC where it was purchased from new, for a little warranty problem. I asked for them to do an oil and filter change for me. It was then at 5000mls. They insisted it does not need a change, not for 20000mls, or its service interval. And they did insist, it doesn't need to be done. Even though as an ex motor engineer, that went against my instict, especially from the first run in period.
There must be something in it, when they turn down money.

Thanks Buddy! I'll do the oil myself and like Nick said just use OEM parts. I mean, really? What harm is there in changing the oil more regularly, that's good right? Back in the day I used to change my oil and filter every 5000 miles on my MK2 GTI

I bought a brand new Ford Ranger here in Thailand last year and went and watched them do the service. They emptied the oil and went to fill it again when I stopped them. I told them the oil filter needed changing as well, they said it didn't, I had to get the manager over and insist they change it (it's a 20GBP part...) Go figure...

I had the same issue as yourself with my new macan 2 facelift

Checked all the usual retrofitters in the uk but no one has a solution to retrofit and OEM rear view camera to the new PCM 5.0

I finally was offered a extremely discounted install price by Kufatec Bad Segeberg Germany. They would use my Macan as a donor to find the solution. They needed the car for 5 days. So a long journey from Scotland via ferry Newcastle to.Holland the drive up to Bad Segeberg Germany.
I used the trip as a wee holiday and took my wife to enjoy Holland Germany and while the car was with Kufatec we used trains to visit Denmark and Sweden so all in we had a great break . The install worked out perfectly and Fabien of Kufatec kept us informed daily with the install progress. They even threw in video in motion and set my alarm to bleep when opening and closing the doors.
Price was heavily discounted given I had given them my car to test their solution. I paid just €180

They are now selling the solution for just over €1000

Reverse camera, like heated seats, once you've had one etc etc. I do find it useful especially in Supermarket car parks to avoid little old ladies strolling behind me. As for changing your own oil, I stopped that in my early 20's along with painting brake calipers red. Go the whole hog and do the brake fluid and pads while your at it. If Porsche say it's 20,000 miles or two years between changes then it's their problem if anything goes pop. Just my opinion of course. It's your car, do as you wish.
