So my 2 years 10 month old SD is a keeper with about 35000 miles despite the halogens, and I need to decide soon whether to extend the warranty. Mr Sensible says extend the warranty and run it as standard for another 2 years. Mr Wild says self insure and stick a TDI tuning chip in it and go independent for maintenance. To be honest the standard performance of the SD is enough for road use, but it might be nice to get a"new" car for a few hundred pounds. Any thoughts?

Well, from someone who has already extensively modded his 911 Carrera T well inside the warranty period, as you might expect, I favour the ‘Mr Wild’ approach!

Yes, another reason for considering going wild is the local opc. Nothing fundamentally bad, but a Lexus NX courtesy car on the only service so far and no attempt to tempt me with a sports car makes me think I’m not that important to them. Perhaps I’ll get the 111check done anyway and make a decision after that, especially after Charles’ recent post!Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:48 pm Well, from someone who has already extensively modded his 911 Carrera T well inside the warranty period, as you might expect, I favour the ‘Mr Wild’ approach!

^^^ Check out the charge for the 111-point check first. There will be a charge, especially if you don’t end up buying the extended warranty.

Totally understand your dilemma despite having LEDs. End of March is my 36 months and 40,000 service due now.brains1900 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:23 pm So my 2 years 10 month old SD is a keeper with about 35000 miles despite the halogens, and I need to decide soon whether to extend the warranty. I am thinking of tuning but avoiding the additional Porsche warranty (self insuring). I have had the transfer box replaced and will be researching the reliability of the engine (Audi V6 diesel tuned by Porsche) and the excellent PDK mean my 27,000 mile car should last a very long time...Dreading replacing the brake discs and pads (still on original Michelin Latitude all season tyres) and of course the 40,000 mile service due in January 2021.
+1 re discs. I’ve just been advised that I’ve maybe 6-9 months before replacement is due (about 5mm left). Is it normal to replace both pads AND discs?MCS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 9:31 am I am thinking of tuning but avoiding the additional Porsche warranty (self insuring). Pads can be replaced without new discs, if the discs are still within their wear limit, but if new discs are fitted then new pads must be fitted too.Dandock wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:28 pm+1 re discs. I checked this, first on the Brembo website (the brakes are manufactured by Brembo), then with Porsche GB, because my OPC were fitting new discs to my 911 but not pads as they were very little worn. However, it is accepted best practice to fit new pads with new discs as they have to bed in to each other and become 'matched pairs' for best performance. New pads will bed in to existing discs as they are softer of course and that process can be helped with a few firm applications of the brakes from speed.
