I favour NFU and insured with them for 2 consecutive years.
Probably the only insurer I have ever used where they give you a discount in subsequent years based on their profits.

They are risk-averse, hence many people unable to get insurance with them if living in city or higher crime rate areas.

If you are insuring a new vehicle they will replace it in the event of write-off for up to 2 years whereas many insurers will only cover 1 year. That was a big plus for me.

There are cheaper, although at the time of my insurance they were extremely competitive.

That’s why i told the sales adviser bloke I’d think about it, i live in a low crime rural area, so no justification for higher excess in my view, car is not keyless either

I too live in a rural area. Once again NFU was ridiculously expensive when I was getting quotes for the GTS. Also with a £1500 Excess

RAC / LV nearly half the price and £450 Excess.

Seperate GAP insurance for year 2 would be the answer for the new for old replacement if that's your concern.

...and yet NFU was my choice on my previous GTS; not the rock-bottom cheapest but competitive (I accept the theft excess is extreme) and they do specifically cover shot-gun cartridges and black powder 😉

With the number of armed robberies on the decline this isn't such a necessity anymore.

If the car is not garaged, yes, it is normal.

Check out Saga car insurance, they also offer the above new vehicle cover for 2yrs on first registered new cars, they are also 5 star defaqto rated, my last premium was £343, living in sunny Gloucestershire with 14+yrs NCD

Hate to admit it, but I've gone with Saga this year and for a slight uplift, fixed price for 3 years.

Hi.
I'm sorry to hear above the issues you've had with ourselves. Did we take all of your details? If you wanted to PM me some details I'd be happy to look into this for you.
Regards,
Dan.
