Interesting question about an area where I've not considered the details. The car has its registration number allocated (and presumably plates on the car) which is what to me means registered. Putting the registration number into the DVLA checker comes back as not found so I assume this means it’s not registered as the DVLA would understand it. I’ve not paid for the car in full so I’m presuming it’s not taxed and showing me as the owner. Hope this doesn’t mean that the tax has been paid by the dealer already and the clock is ticking down while it isn’t being used. I suspect that what I wrote originally is incorrect and it’s not technically registered.Paul wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 3:52 pm?? has to be both.....can’t register a car without taxing it ??SmallWheels wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 1:04 pm My new S is sitting at the OPC registered but not taxed ....
(Unless you then SORN it straight away, but you’d need the log-book.)

^^^ If it is taxed already (in March) that might be a good thing, due to the big rise in car tax due in April.

It won’t be taxed / registered. No way the dealership would do that without cleared funds.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:59 pm ^^^ If it is taxed already (in March) that might be a good thing, due to the big rise in car tax due in April.
Number plate can be allocated and held in suspense on AFRL....

I agree. That's what they've done with mine. I have the reg.no. that I picked allocated, but the car has not been registeredPaul wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 6:04 pmIt won’t be taxed / registered. Regarding RFL the increase from March to April is small according to my OPC "increasing from £1,280 – £1,305. "

£25?
That’s good, Steve! I was just going by what others have been saying on here about much more dramatic rises in the RFL...

My new BMW is trapped at the port in Southampton and the dealer is shut. My car tax is going up by £750 so very unhappy now. All pre planned to avoid the rise and collect on Monday. Finance all in place but my salesman says he cannot register a car that is not physically here sadly.

I believe it can be registered if it’s in the country. No doubt Paul can confirm or not.........

If the car is in the UK (even sat at the import centre), has been consigned to the dealership and is on AFRL then yes, technically it can be registered.Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 9:33 pm I believe it can be registered if it’s in the country. No doubt Paul can confirm or not.........
But the dealership will expect payment in full first (and the vehicle will need subsequent insurance) and they will have to have admin staff on site to process the whole affair.

The confusion arises (including my own) with how emissions are declared for tax purposes. The NEDC equivalent figure for the Macan GTS IS 218 g/km. NEDC equivalent results from an agreed conversion of WLTP testing results. So NEDC equivalent figures are different from NEDC emissions values and WLTP values. If the NEDC equivalent value is that applied by HMRC then the tax increase will indeed be small. Here's hoping!Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:56 pm£25?
