The design life is 5-7 years depending on the manufacturer. Though if the first owner knew he was keeping it, he might look after it and extend this to 9-10 until the reason for keeping the repair costs is emotional rather than financial.

I read that modern DPF engines must be used on longer runs regularly and switched off after the turbo oil has a chance to cool.

We find that the latest VAG Common Rail engines are pretty reliable on the whole. The earlier VAG 2.0 PD engines have suffered from reliability issues. DPFs do seem to be an issue on vehicles that have not been regularly driven on longer runs on open roads. This applies across all manufacturers though so not something for just VAG.

Wink
As far as I know Porsche will let you have extended warranty for 9 years.
Surely that can't be a negative vibe.
My Land Rover started falling apart after 2 years, clutch, wipers, diff, brakes, engine management, lights, corroded wiring harness, etc.
It was serviced every recommended interval by the main dealer and repaired in-between, so the 9 year extended warinty from Porsche looks good to me.

I had a Q5 3L Diesel, did 97k miles in 4 years, never a peep out of it, put in 1 litre of oil in apart from routine services.

V Power Diesel will extend your DPF life and helps with short journey use as it doesn't produce soot. My VRS (168BHP) 2 litre CR VW unit in the Octavia is nearly 5 years old and the 're-gen' light has never been on...always been run on V Power. Wink
