Are the turbos on 991.2's a weak point? I've read stuff here and there and I'm surprised how many have blown and at such low mileage.
We did research it on line and found a few reports of failed turbos on low mileage cars with the same symptoms. But I would not say it’s a weak point, it would not put me off them. Important to have a good warranty though.

Most frustrating was getting UK OPC to diagnose correctly and replace them, as they kept saying that a bit of oil smoke on start up was normal. 🤣 The OPC just replaced oil lines / pipes and said it was good to go on a 2,000 mile EU trip. So we did. Only got as far as Aachen where the turbo(s) blew. Which was lucky as we then chose to have the car fixed by Porsche Aachen.

The other cases we read about had similar experience, until the turbo(s) actually blew, OPC would not replace them despite signs of imminent demise. But I expect that is the rules / protocol they have to follow.
Our stable:
- 992 Carrera T - manual - Ruby Star Neo - Carrera Excl. wheels (2023)
- BMW 240i xDrive (G42) - Portimao Blue - AC Schnitzer tune
ex: 981 Cayman GTS, Macan S Diesl, Macan Turbo, 991.2 Carrera S, 718 Cayman GTS, i30 N, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

Thanks for that info. So are the only symptoms a bit of blue smoke on start up? Do you know what caused them to blow?

We understood that it was a leaky turbo seal.

The first thing we noticed was the excessive smoke when started up, even when the car was still warm (not necessarily blue and not the usual condensation)

So a turbo pipe was replaced, thinking that it was a faulty oil return valve. But that did not solve the heavy smoking.

We also noticed a boost leak, but we don't think that was related to the turbo fault, just a badly clipped boost pipe.

And this is after the turbo(s) went puff, car being loaded on the recovery truck in Germany:

However, with good warranty, the turbos do get eventually replaced under the warranty and the car is as good as new. So it would not put us off buying one again.
(We still have it :D )

Also if buying privately, the seller can transfer the remainder of the Porsche Approved warranty (and Porsche Assitance) to the buyer, it stays with the car (if there is a warranty in the first place of course).

Here is link to the Porsche Approved Warranty flyer: https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/re ... 8032dd5fd6

And a link to the Porsche approved used microsite: https://www.porsche.com/uk/approvedused ... eapproved/
