Just a thought, can you not use something like a CTEK on an i3, which would condition the battery?

You probably could, but not an option parked at the airport.

It would always be garaged at home over the winter period.
Is there a conditioner setting on EV chargers?

I have a number of lithium batteries in tools and the new golf trolley. The new trolley particularly recommend that lithium batteries are left with half to two thirds charge if not going to use for an extended period. i would have thought the same would apply to a lithium car battery.

Yes, the car’s battery management system takes care of everything. No need for a separate battery conditioner when the car is plugged in.

Yes it does. When lithium batteries are stored at full capacity they start to degrade permanently. They also degrade when kept at very low charge too. 50-70% is recommended for long term storage. But anywhere from 30-85% is really okay. When I go away I charge to 50% and leave it plugged in. On a daily basis I only charge to 85% and only ever charge to 100% directly before a long trip.

Sorry MCDK, we should probably start a new topic as we are moving off your original thread, although it is still about interest in the i3.

Peteski, doesn't the battery management system allow a charge to 100% when plugged in, therefore if left plugged in for say even a month won't this continue to keep it at 100%. I agree this is not good, we leave our golf and bike batteries at around 75%.

In simple terms what is the issue with the battery being charged to 100% on a regular basis. Given the ranges of any Ev isn’t huge I think I would want to be getting to 100%,on each charge.

The issue for me is leaving it on charge for a few months, or charging to 100% and unplugging and leaving?
I really would like to go EV for the daily hack, but reality is we currently (apart from current Covid restrictions) go away for 4 months.
How would the battery cope?
BMW, Nissan and also JLR dealers haven't a clue when asked.

The issue is a permanent loss of range and peak power. But the i3 only ever uses about 85-90% of its actual total battery capacity to protect itself. So you can charge to an indicated 100% each time without worry.
