What speed camera detector do you use? What are the pros and cons of your setup?

I see Halfords sell Saphe and Road Angel, at vastly different pricing points:

https://www.halfords.com/technology/sp ... 9268.html

I am happy to pay premium for the device, but I don’t like subscription (fleecing) services.

May I have your views and recommendations?

I wouldn’t waste your money. By the time one of the new generation of cameras has picked you up and and you have been alerted it’s too late.

So do I, my last driver awareness course was 4 years ago. It was very good course by the way 🤓.

However with regular restriction changes, roadworks, variable speed, … it’s good to have tech oversight, as my GPS maps seem to be outdated.

This is why the Porsche Speed Limit Indicator is worth the £185:

"Camera-based recognition of speed limits, ‘no overtaking’ zones (start and end) and various other signs (skid risk, temporary restrictions) in interaction with the vehicle sensor system. Includes a display on the colour screen in the instrument cluster. In the event of sign recognition failure (e.g. in heavy rain or darkness), the speed limit stored in the navigation module will be displayed."

I've specified it in both my Macans and it has helped on numerous occassions,
Steve

@SAC1, agreed and I have it as well in my (last) Macan and (current) Boxster, saved me points many a times.
My wife’s car (other badge) has also camera warnings, so additional level of protection.

That is the sensible option.

Last time we were heading North on the M1 in Yorkshire there were average speed cameras everywhere.

Turned off onto the M62 to head over the Pennines and yep average speed cameras were everywhere.

This journey is where I firmed up my belief that a worrying proportion on drivers are brain dead.

I lost count of the number of drivers who were vastly exceeding the speed limit only for them to clock the average speed camera at the last second and slam on their brakes, just what was going through their mushy grey matter at the time was beyond comprehension.

Obviously the signs that read Average Speed Camera is beyond the computational understanding of the grey mush inside their heads.

There actions were positively dangerous, I have avoided Mways in Yorkshire since.

There used to be (back in the day !) a camera database which provided a free monthly update as POIis, that you could upload into TomTom - i think it was downloaded from pocketgps website.

Whether you can add additional POI lists to the PCM I dare say someone will comment one way or t'other; this listing doesn't even feature Porsche so perhaps that's all we need to know ..
