I basically agree with the Colonel

I used to use the PocketGPS database downloaded into a TomTom. However, I concluded it was not reliable especially with regard to Camera Van sites. In my own area, I know the regular locations. In the database, they remove a site if it has not been reported as used for a few months but then they of course then get reused and take some time to be reentered in the database.

I have a friend who did 30 k a year in his job and settled on a Road Angel after trying several alternatives

If you’re happy to use CarPlay whenever you’re out and about then Waze does a great job because it’s continuously updated by drivers ahead of you. However, it is dependent I think on the routes you are using, the volume of traffic before you and the type of drivers using the route. For example, on the M1 I am always notified in advance of police hideouts, accidents and congestion because there are so many users ahead that there is always someone willing to note it on Waze and so inform everyone else.

But off peak or on quieter roads there are fewer updates and I noticed the same during lockdown.

However the process of updating Waze whilst travelling at 70 or so doesn’t seem safe at all but that’s another issue.

Now if it was integrated with the PCM and we could use voice commands...... ah ha, another of those pigs just flew past!

I am not an Apple user but suspect using Waze on Carplay and updating via Siri is more likely to arrive first. ;) ;)
