We are now on an alternative day delivery routine as our local Royal Mail office has cocked up,again. They implemented a new work practice which is code for extending the rounds of the currents Posties due to 'A severe downfall in the number of letters posted and an increase in parcels'. We have had stuff take two weeks to arrive with a first class stamp on. I complained and got the standard letter back. They are trying to hire some more Posties. Great time to advertise, in the Winter. We used to know our Postman, Joe, but he's been shunted off elsewhere. Now we get a mixture of people who don't have a clue of the geography of their round. We must be near the end of the round as it's dark now when they do turn up. I blame Brexit I remember when we used to get two deliveries a day. Gone to the dogs this place.
Dolomite Silver 'S' with red leather 14 way seats, Pano roof, Bose, Air suspension with pasm, Chrono pack, PDLS, Surround view, 911 turbo wheels, heated screen, spare wheel, ioniser,75 lt tank, black tail pipes, black roof rails.
Yes, those old days! Being old myself, I also remember when (assuming they were not on strike) dustmen would come into one’s driveway to cart off the round, metal, bins; andCheshire Cat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:34 pm We are now on an alternative day delivery routine as our local Royal Mail office has cocked up, again……., I remember when we used to get two deliveries a day. When milkmen would deliver Red, Gold, Silver top milk bottles to one’s door…. (BTW where they not the first to have all electric vehicles !?); and
Weekly testing of the Air-raid/Emergency sirens
(there was one at my school) and
When one could service a (carb.) engine oneself , without requiring specialist equipment
and, and etc.
Oh well, nothing stands still, progress and all that!
[sniffs a tear or two as he shuffles off to get his slippers and sit next to the empty fireplace ((those lazy coal-men haven’t been round for years to deliver his fortnightly coal supply))]
Macan S arrived May’22.

In Queen Victoria's time (much before mine I hasten to add ), it was sometime possible to get same day delivery. Mind you, the GPO didn't face competition from emails, WhatsApp etc.

I've no complaints about my two or three regular posties - been great service for the last 5+ years.
Larger parcels tend to come ca 08:30hrs, normal post and smaller parcels 11-12:00hrs
We lost the local tin shack post office in the village before Covid, and it partly re-opened to a 1 day/week service - now closed again; but then who waits for a specific day to post things? The town post office is a mile away , so perhaps a luxury to have one in the village too
