Off to France shortly, and gather that speed camera related devices are illegal.

Has anyone here been stopped by gendarmes and had their phone inspected, or is the risk pretty low?

Thanks

I’ve just returned from 4 weeks in France, and in that whole time, I think I only saw two police vehicles, so I think the chances of being stopped are very small, provided you stick to the speed limits!! 😁

I think google maps and Waze disable the speed camera recognition feature when connected with French WI-FI.
This should make it safe as long as you are using Wi-Fi from your phone and not any in-car Wi-Fi?

in-car WiFi would be using the same French mobile phone network, wouldn't it?

Yes I think you are right actually 🤔
Either way I don’t think I would bother about it too much as I think chances of being stopped and then checked specifically for this are pretty slim.

I've just driven through to Spain. No gendarmes. I used SpeedAlert and only missed one. 10kph over and no flash so waiting to see if I got caught. There are so many apps it would be difficult to block them all. At least they put up a big sign warning you 1k ahead.

Turned my camera alerts off just to be sure…..

Heading back to Calais I was doing 130 kliks in lane 2 when a big Audi came past us like we were going backwards. Felt the Defender rock as it went past! Few k’s further on the cops were waiting for him, chased him and pulled him over. Saw the two guys at the train terminal 30 mins later looking a bit glum, I imagine with much lighter pockets! I wondered how the cops knew what he was doing, reported perhaps? Didn’t notice any cameras on that stretch but who knows what other tech they might have access to.

They don't seem to have any tech to catch people smugglers...

Use it all the time - no issues

I think they use other means now to catch us Brits now the data can't be provided for camera fines

Last time we got stopped was on route to LeMans for a track day - somebody phoned the police ahead and we were greeted with a road block and then escorted off to the local nick under blue lights

That was entertaining....
