I can’t say I “hate” it, that’s a bit strong, just not a fan of plastic on seats and steering wheels - having said that I don’t think it would be a deal breaker if I was buying used etc.

Why is the option plastic? I’d expect leather

Alcantara or race tex as it is now, is a plastic material similar to nylon.

Alcantara is composed of about 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane, giving increased durability and stain resistance. The appearance and tactile feel of the material is similar to that of suede, and it may be erroneously identified as such.

My wife's Nissan Juke has alcantara on the seat bolsters ,dashboard and door cards , not a big fan but it is easy to keep clean.I much prefer the full leather on the Macan , the alcantara seat centres on a Macan would be a deal breaker for me , I appreciate the summer/winter attraction but why have heated seats with alcantara.

Because when it's really cold, they heat up quicker than all leather ones.
