When I joined the forum I worked for the largest manufacturer of railway "On Track" machines in the world. That was the source of my User Name. Little did I think that people might think that I was like Tracky, a track day specialist. I might have chosen differently if I had. :)

Tracky isn’t a reference to race tracks, he just inadvertently put an R in his name by mistake…

Years ago, I used to sport a moustache. For some reason, with a shortish haircut, and when wearing a dinner jacket, folks would ask if I was in the RAF. Some workmates learned of this and the nickname of Wing Commander was born!

Some colleagues still remember this nickname from well over 20 years ago!

I have sadly never been in the RAF or flown an aeroplane, although I did jump out of one a couple of times. ;)

It's a tad left-field - it's a twist on the phrase "Devil's advocate".

First, I'm a lawyer and "advocate" is another word for a lawyer. Secondly, when I came up with it, I was living on the street in Moscow where the opening scene of the classic Russian novel "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov is set. The main protagonist is called "Woland", who is an incarnation of the devil - Bulgakov apparently derived this from "voland", which is an archaic German word for the devil (see eg Goethe's Faust).
