I think the electronic dipstick is designed to show a "level" rather than just empty or needing oil.
My diesel has just done 2000 miles an shows thus:
To my mind, with the green line not quite going to the top anymore, this suggests I have used a bit but not much - as I would I expectSmile

I have now done 10,600miles - I have put in 1 litre of oil in total in and shows exactly as above.
I don't think I will need any more oil until it needs a service (and oil change) at 20k miles.

I was going to get my wife to do it but thankfully watched this first!

have been advised by my local porsche garage the full length of the dip stick takes 0.8 lts, and should stop using oil after 7/9000 miles

Not a drop yet jonmacan - still in the same sort of place after 3500 miles - you've been busy in yours? (Or did you leave the keys with your wife again?! )

Hmm, thinking of doing the 5/2 diet with mine-I'm using the car for everything and the odometer is looking very fat! 8000 miles in 3 months and if I'm not driving it, I'm washing it.
Cheers

To resurrect this old thread and reassure or confirm that the oil level guage is an accurate measure.

I had the warning message up the other day on my 17000 mile GTS, “oil level low, put in up to a litre, safe to drive” or words to that effect.

I only had a part-used bottle of Mobil 1, having already done a precautionary top-up prior to a run to Spa at about 6000 miles from memory.
Anyway, I put in the remaining half a litre and the gauge is now showing thus;

ie around half way between empty and full...

Interesting Paul. What procedure did you use to check the level after topping up? And does it show the same level while driving?
