Hiya,
So now that the diesel is an Audi lump (with the worlds longest drive belt!) does anyone have experience of how much oil is being used?
There are stories of class action suits against Audi related to their engines' prodigious appetite for oil, and not just the diesel kind!

I had an Audi with terrible oil consumption. But that was a petrol 2.0 ltr and no doubt the same engine that goes in the Base Macan.
My guess its that unit you have heard about as I have only heard positive things about the 3.0 ltr units, both petrol and Diesel.

Oh good. Well, for us 3.0 burners anyway.
On the downside, the Mrs complained last night that she was a Macan widow already.
Just wait until August, dear.

Chris
This is correct, it was an issue with the version B8 audits in the A4 and A5 however it was sorted with the B8.5 facelift models so it is no longer an issue

BMW 335 diesel, 90000 miles, doesn't use a drop of oil between services. I take it you've had to top oil up in less than 7000 miles?

No top up has been required. The digital oil reading shows that I have only used a very small amount so far.

Oh - this is disappointing.
Having asked about this topic back in April before the car had even been conceived, I was reassured somewhat. And then this afternoon the dash reported a "fill oil with a quart" or a similar type message with a unintelligible word order (what the heck? - a quart - the last time I heard that term I was watching the waltons talk about a cow's output).
I've completed 6,300miles in 7 weeks, admittedly, but assuming it was full to begin with then to top up now with almost 20% of the total quantity - wow. I've looked at the owners manual that says I could expect 0.3l per 1000km and thankfully, it's not quite that, but by the time the first service is due I could have used a half of the total quantity. I spoke to the OPC in Bristol who didn't seem at all concerned, although he did ask that I drop it in for a quick check.
I'll take it in tomorrow and report back.
PS 5 litres of Mobil 1 C30 (5W-30) takes £52 out of your tank, but somewhat amazed that Halfords actually stocked the recommended oil!
Rereading the last message from mark-yorkshire, I've assumed that the oil feedback on the dash isn't particularly informative - I'd thought it reports it's good or bad with a very low level displayed, but in green to represent ok, and a similar graphic showing the same level of oil in the engine symbol but this time in yellow to indicate an action is required, but no levels in between. Mark-Yorkshire, does the graphic actually indicate a level, or is it as I have assumed just a good/bad, black/white indicator? I hope it does actually indicate a level - that way the level has never been much above the minimum and so I haven't lost too much oil at all. Fat chance!
