Picked up my Turbo on the 20th September last year so thought that today would be the last day it is taxed for.

Went onto the DVLA site to sep up a DD only to find that the tax is not due until 1st October.

At least you do get reminded about the tax.

Earlier in the year, I drove my Evoque around for three months without a valid MOT (and therefore no valid insurance either).

Made me feel pretty guilty after I found out. Thankfully, a local garage made the inspection and got it sorted out the next day.

Except when DVLA go on strike!

Many years ago I was returning from a tea break and spotted a police car in the ditch.

Ran over quickly and offered to tow them out; they looked up and said they'd been chasing me because my tax was overdue!

This was in my little Morris Minor van which apparently held the road a bit better.

Interesting. Car tax always runs to the end of a month, but I am surprised you got just over a year rather than just under. The SE told me when I collected mine that they always tax it on the day of collection so that I get more for the money (i.e. a full year) but I expect it to run out at the end of February (taxed from 4th March). Maybe it runs out at the end of the month taxed. Or the nearest month end. I will find out - but I am sure it won't run out on the 3rd March.

Col, if you check back on your figures, I think you'll find that you were billed for car tax at 12 months plus 10-11 days, rather than just for one year's worth... :geek:

Easily done; dealers can tax (from new only) for a year and a week (or even 2 or 3 weeks). Used to cost £3.50 per extra week, probably more now☹️

My Wife collects her F-Type AWD tomorrow - its a great piece of kit, nor as sporty as a 911 or Cayster, but a great GT car which is exactly what she wanted.

I thought this was the case although my SE told me otherwise. I have just checked online and mine is due 1st March, so I have lost 3 days. I don't think Col will have gained any though - as you say, he must have paid. As we all know, tax is one of life's two inevitabilities!

Ditto. Big fan of the F-Type. A pretty car and sounds great.
