Great view, Ian.

All we saw down my way was clouds.

I couldn't agree more. I observed a total eclipse once when in Cherbourg harbour some years ago. A most eerie experience, everything went totally quiet and even the birds stopped singing as the total darkness swept in and by. If you ever get the chance to be in the direct path of an eclipse, then you really need to be there ;) :o :?:

👍
From your time-line I guess you saw it " live?"

I recall seeing the previous one when we were in France one summer, probably 15 (?) years ago....very spooky as it got progressively darker, all the birds stopped singing and everything seemed to slow down....but a great experience.

Edit to say I hadn't seen the last posts - apologies for duplication..

And cold. I remember the sudden feeling of cold mid-way through a warm day...

We saw it from South Carolina. Amazing experience. Got gradually colder and darker with a slightly odd light. The cicadas started up making noise. Then it went dark and we saw the stars and planets. Then 2 1/2 minutes later it was all over. It was a long drive up from Florida where we are staying, but worth it.
