I just watched the Audi A8 event thingy in Barcelona... or rather I skipped most of it because it was quite painfully presented.

Interesting autonomy stuff - level 3 for traffic jam (low speed), full automation for parking. Sensors that look to be a bit beyond what Tesla is doing right now. Commitment to petrol and diesel V6 engines, but thankfully promising V8s and a W12 engine :) All mild hybrids, but a full hybrid only for the A8L - I guess that's for the Chinese market.

It strikes me that Audi have been beavering away relatively quietly and are doing some seriously good work. Their robotic race car was certainly memorable. And the virtual dashboard launched with the #3 TT has been almost universally praised. I took part in a consumer thing with the A3 e-tron, a good 12 months before launch, and was very impressed - and that's a good few years ago now.

I always liked the idea of the A3 e-Tron.

Went to the Audi site for A8 info, but spotted there's now an RS3 Saloon. Wife prefers a boot to a hatchback and I do like the 5-pot. I'm afraid to test drive it only to find it's still hugely disappointing dynamically.

Not sure if you've seen this, but Henry Catchpole rated it saying that the chassis now finally lives up to the engine. Could be worth a look.

What's the best way of removing seriously sun-baked pine sap - bearing in mind that I have a GTecniq protective coating?

Nice little video, Hawkeye. Thanks for sharing. I love this guy's stuff. Puts me in mind of a skinny Wolverine, who loves cars & driving, and is an eloquent journalist. :ugeek:

I think he's a great journalist and always watch his stuff regardless of the cars he's reviewing.

Pity you don't get this level of clear info from Porsche.
