I had a 718 Cayman for the day yesterday while my Macan was being serviced. The Cayman was a manual. Stop start only engaged if you selected neutral with your foot on the brake or the handbrake applied. This meant it was much more controllable than with an automatic. Unfortunately, if they adopted the same rule for automatic cars stop start would never cut in. At least I wouldn't have to keep turning it off.

I quickly got into the habit of turning off the stop-start if in stop-start traffic.

Much the same way as I got used to turning off the parking sensors when I didn't need them. Not much hassle for me and I like the way the stop-start works the majority of the time.

Simply push the Sport button.

It disables the Stop/Start and gives a far better throttle response profile for town work.

Turn ignition to first stop, put on seat belt while pumps start and push oil around, then press PSE and disable stop / start...then fire it up and smile.
Routine since new, never used stop / start function.

Or simply select Sport mode, which automatically disables auto stop/start and turns on PSE, if you have it ;)
