Really? Some R8s have 90l tanks but petrol is much lighter than water (Wikipedia told me 0.71–0.77 kg/L).
The End of the Petrol Head?
Here is a close up view of the Tesla battery swap.

Yeah, that was already linked above and is interesting. But I really don't see it happening mainstream in the next few decades. Just a novelty for the rich. Also likely to be redundant as EV range increases to match petrol/diesel. Still loads of unresolved issues before EV will take over the world.Mistertoad wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:02 amTesla offers an S Model battery swap that takes the time to refuel an Audi Avant. Battery technology is advancing rapidly, wait and see or take the plunge will always be a conundrum. I've put down a deposit on an I-Pace and may take the plunge if it comes up to my expectations.

Not convinced. They can't even build reliable conventional cars yet.Mistertoad wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 12:14 pm Battery technology is advancing rapidly, wait and see or take the plunge will always be a conundrum. I do actually quite like the idea of an EV, but haven't seen one that makes any financial sense yet (except maybe the Leaf, but that's not much use to me). Once I can buy a proper family EV with a genuine 400 mile range, with performance and overall cost comparable to a conventional premium car then I'll show some serious interest. Realistically I think that's still a decade away, obviously sooner if you are willing to pay over the odds as an early adopter.

I am not convinced battery technology is advancing rapidly. I would say small enhancements are being made.
Its the advances in other things like weight and power consumption which makes us think the battery last longer.
LED screens etc etc.
Super fast charging will come very soon and we will see this on our phones. The batteries on our phones have not really changed for many years now. Just the tech behind it to consume less power and do more with it.
Unless there is some very big breakthrough now (which we wont see for a number of years on our products due to many testing restrictions.)
Even Mr Musk has not found any big breakthrough in battery Tech... YET....

I had my Jaguar for 11 years and not once did it have a breakdown.Peteski wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 12:46 pmNot convinced. It went into limp home mode once when a sensor failed and I had another intermittent fault that was cleared by switching off, waiting a minute then starting the car up again.
Even the SatNav worked flawlessly in the Jag and was miles better than what we have in the Macan or the cr4p system I had in the Audi.
Compare that to many of the issues Macans have had and all of a sudden Jaguar produce a much more reliable car than Porsche.
Such a shame that Jags after sales service is poor, at least it is in my City.

Lithium based battery tech has been around since the mide 80's and in particular LiPo cells became available commercially in 1996.
There are a plethora of Li derivatives with Panasonic's 18650 currently the industry standard and it is this cell that is in the Tesla S and X battery packs.
Tesla is working with Panasonic to develop the above cell and in particular Tesla are developing a cell they call the 2170 based on the LiIon technology.
Each cell is about the size of an AA battery and assembled into modules and a number of battery modules assembled into the battery pack with 8 modules being fitted into the Tesla Model 3.
Appologies for the Techie bit.

Well I don't think either Porsche or Jaguar score highly on reliability. I've had a few company jags and they were actually reliable (although very low mileage examples), but quality was not great. I've had various issues with Porsche (mainly electrical) ending up on the recovery truck. JLR quality/reliability is notoriously bad, although I admit that may apply more to LR products than Jag - until you look at issues with the F-Pace. Anyway I wouldn't have much confidence in the I-Pace myself. It seems way out of their comfort zone.Col Lamb wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 1:21 pmI had my Jaguar for 11 years and not once did it have a breakdown.Peteski wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 12:46 pmNot convinced. Is this really the dash on a new Tesla 3 !!!!
I really hate the stuck on iPad that Mercedes have and now sprouting up on Audi's.
IMO it Looks Cr*p good luck with that Tesla, and the brown wood trim do me a favour do we live in the 70's.
