I am beginning to be of the opinion that buying a diesel is just not the way to go.

I suppose, but if I was still doing 15K + miles per annum, I'd be down the diesel route...cheat software us morally wrong I accept, but personal economics / day to day costs do weigh heavily for alot of people.

I've always thought "they were all at it".

There are still a lot of great diesel cars out there - from 70 mpg and zero road tax to very fast ones (the Panamera springs to mind)

Panamera SD is indeed a very fine car. Is/was the fastest production diesel car on the market, but not currently available... :(

I wouldn't have a Porsche in my drive if it wasn't for diesel. I just do too many miles to consider a petrol. So long live the oil burner!! .......well until a good electric car comes along...........preferably a Porsche....

They must all have been at - VW group could not produce Diesel engines so much less efficient than everyone else that only they needed to cheat !

Diesel would be ideal for me, but I'm not buying something so dependent upon politics at this price.

Running costs are a lesser worry than residuals and they will be hit - because of uncertainty if nothing else . Petrol S is a rare beast on the second hand market.

Can't quite get over Porsche just pulling most of their diesels overnight - highly unusual , which again just shows what a disaster area this is.

Dont remember when buying a pre 2011 BMW diesel being told it would be due a scrappage scheme come 2017!!!

 Euro-6 diesels are much cleaner. The Vehicle manufacturers need to get their PR dept to get this across to the press and the public PDQ. Brand new models are being still launched this year with EU-6 diesel engines. The  demonisation needs to be reigned in.

It would be interesting to know how many Macan SD v petrol versions have been registered in 2017?
