Porsche are now a mass manufacturer and they have emission targets to hit. If diesel sales cease, then the remaining petrol models will have to be considerably cleaner to reflect the new sales mix. Hybrids are too far away to change the emissions in the short term.

Need to sell diesels to hit co2 targets but they apparently have lethal nox issues so people now being couragedto buy petrol but they have co2 issues....

You couldn't make this stuff up for what is a huge industry and most people's second biggest purchase .

Can we not just accept that cars are not environmentally friendly , and have no more ICE sold after 2040 by which time it will sort itself out

All this is good for Cornish tin mines.

Apparently where there is Tin there is Lithium.

Surveys are ongoing to determine if any of the Tin mines are worth opening in light of the boom in demand for Lithium.

Yet another nail.
more False News! not all diesels are dropping in value but the small cars like the Corsa and the pre-EU6 versions of cars like the A3.

Counterpoint: What Car? has just published its best large SUV top 10 and guess what they are all diesel engined versions - their No.1 being the Skoda Kodiak 2.0 TDI 150 SE

You can probably find enough statistics banging around to support any argument. True or false

It would be interesting to know how many Macan SD v petrol versions have been registered in 2017?
Here you go :

Just for clarification these figures are for how many vehicles are licensed in each year of the model category. To get an idea of annual sales deduct the previous years figure.

Apologies for the fact that my Excel spreadsheet did not copy in the way I hoped but here are the "how many left" figures presented in a different manor.
Year of Registration Total Registrations
Model Variant 2017 2016 2015 2014
Macan 86 300 291 31 708
Macan SD 800 2500 2684 916 6900
Macan S 224 311 480 185 1200
Macan GTS 381 819 0 0 1200
Macan Turbo 140 414 355 191 1100
Macan Turbo PP 33 6 0 0 39
Total in Year 1664 4350 3810 1323 11147

They show that so far this year, the SD is only 64 registrations short of outselling all the other variants put together so there has not been the massive fall off some members have talked about. The other interesting fact is that, given the number of forum members, we represent a larger proportion of the Macan owners than we might have thought.

There's about 25-35 active users on this forum. Not all from the UK. Over 11000 Macans registered in the UK.
About 1/3%.

SD 808 new registrations in 2017 vs 2501 in 2016 (68% drop)
S 244 vs 311 (22% drop)
Boggo 86 vs 300 (71% drop)
Turbo 122 vs 414 (71% drop)

Still a bit of 2017 left, I suppose.
Used to have 2016 Macan Turbo PHCKCL70
Previously a 2014 Macan Turbo.
Now a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR

Some very good articles in the times today..." Car dealerships mislead buyers over cleaner fumes"...And "Dirty Dinosaurs" funny enough I was dropping my Bmw for a service this morning and they had a new 520d for sale ,with sales marketing. Written all over it claiming it was less polluting than a petrol! Basically saying what these articles are saying , I don't know how to copy and paste them maybe someone could .
Macan GTS.Vol/ grey turbo 21s, Bose, Panroof, heated seats and steering wheel, 18 way , red belts, LEDs, light comf mem, privacy , compass, 18 spare wheel, aluminium inserts, auto dim mirrors, smoked,r/rails,p/assi. CAYMAN GTS now 😊

Unfortunately, you are not comparing like with like. The 2017 figures are for Quarter 1 only so 800 SD in Q1 might suggest 3200 in the year but we get into "climate change" statistics in using past data to predict forward. The only point I was trying to make was that so far registrations don't show a massive fall of for diesel versions.

I was using total membership for my comment on percentages but in any event used the figure on number of topics so my comment was total b******s.

Does it really matter.

Buyers will buy what they want.

Their choice will be the absolute best Macan within the range.

One thing I think that is certain......buyers tend to only look at annual costs rather than the costs over the whole period of ownership.

10,000 miles per annum and a diesel is cheaper by £500.
