Don't understand the point of Mercedes now. Massively discounted cars with iPads stuck on a dashboard . The w124 is a distant dream,

Both look like cartoon cars, but very much concepts, rather than anything remotely due to hit the roads anytime soon! 😎
Project One won't be much different when it gets to production

Just Googled it. $2.8m hypercar, F1-inspired, 217mph with a 1.6 engine that goes up to 11,000rpm, with electric motors too. Blimey!

To be frank that's a massive generalisation. Yes they have tablets stuck on but then so do Audi for example. Mainstream models are discounted - so are Audi, BMW, Jaguar etc. Project One won't be discounted! GT R is not discounted. Can't think of any Audi that isn't discounted. I can get a discount off most Porsches - does that make them bad??
Current Porsches: 991.2 GT3 RS
Previous Porsches: Macan x4 (one of each), Panamera x2, 996x2, 997x2, Cayenne S, Boxster S, Cayman S x2, Boxster Spyder, 991.1 Turbo S, 991.2 GT3 (manual), 718 Cayman GTS (PDK)
Others: way too many...

Mercs are massively discounted these days - just look at drive the deal specials - it's all merc and 25#.

Build quality on some are far from premium , but that's no surprise when selling them for less than you were 25 years ago .

From a mainstream (ish) perspective, I have only had two Mercs to date, vs many Porsches and BMW and some 5 Audis so if anything that would say I was more anti-Merc than anything else...but I can't stand uneducated comments like this. A C class is no more discounted than a Jaguar XF or BMW 3 series; a GLE no more discounted than an X5, an S class no more so than an A8...Yes Mercedes are now a producer of a massive range, as are BMW and Audi and Toyota...that is a product of manufacturing techniques, the trends for more niche products, the fact that the market for Germen cars particularly is way more global than it was 25 years ago...that's not a failing of Mercedes...that's economics. I think you would also find Mercedes current range is better put together than JLR for example.

I agree there is nothing wrong and nothing like some of the old Mercs. We have a 1998 SL320 (an R129) with only 30k odd miles on the clock and, part from the odd electrical gremlin, it is a great cruiser...but it is all from a different era for which we have well passed.

Prior to the Macan I had four Mercedes. Kept each for 3 years / 30000 miles and also in tandem had an SLK as a second car that we kept for 6 years / 45000 miles. Had ZERO defects and no reliability issues with any of them. ;)
