In the context of Lewis' quick response to Mel, IMHO he made just a witty response. As has been said he couldn't acknowledge another manufacturer given his paymaster! You need to see the whole interview, if you haven't already, on the ITV Hub in order to see who it played out. It's towards the end of the hour long JR programme.

I'm surprised that there have been no comments here on LH securing his 4th world championship last Sunday at the 2017 Mexican GP. The only Brit to have ever achieved that number. 🏎

I think its almost inevitable given not only what he has achieved but also his starting point. Not to mention, as was said in the ST, that he has for several years been best marketing device in F1 - possibly ever. And during some fairly mundane times for the sport.

He is certainly a good driver. However I can't help but wonder about the outcome of this year's championship had Lewis been in a Ferrari or Red Bull; with Vettel, Webber or Verstappen in the Silver Arrow...?

He does things others can't and it is not just down to the equipment - just look at his stats. I suspect he would edge Vettel if he were also in a Ferrari and Verstappen is, as yet, unproven but looks promising
