If that’s the case, then shouldn’t we all turn the lights and the TV off straight away...😉

Yes.

Or at least be more careful in the usage.

We are encouraged to save water yet zilch for electricity.

...driven by a huge, and no doubt expensive, advertising campaign the purpose of which is to enable the gathering of usage data which can determine what we are using at any one time. This is then to be sold on to interested parties.

The one and only time I enquired about a Smartmeter I was told our existing meter was in the wrong place and it would cost about £1000 to move it! Some saving!

Personally if I want to save power I just switch off a light 😳

If you think of the overall efficiency of the cradle to grave scenerio then that would be a far better way of assessing and comparing EVs with ICEs, and that info is not readily available.

Electricity generation is notoriously inefficient, however it is generated.
I don’t think anybody believes that ICEs are the future of cars. Of course EVs have their own issues and the freedom to travel around under our own steam will always have a significant global cost one way or another. But I do feel more comfortable about owning a large EV vs a large ICE. Every time I visit London and other big cities, I find the pollution disturbing. People who live there probably don’t notice how bad it is or what it’s doing to their long term health. It will be interesting to see how things change over the next few decades, but it has to improve for future generations to live a healthy life. But then when you see what most people eat, drink and smoke then perhaps it doesn’t really matter!
