This is pretty much a German award 'Goldene Lenkrad' and Germans are pretty chauvinistic when it come to buying cars, or pretty much anything.

Looking at the overall results it could be renamed as the best VW car of the year.

And I agree, a Panamera is not a sports car. Not knocking the Panamera I'm sure it's an excellent car, probably best described as a GT.

GT or sports saloon. Not a sports car, but a sporty car

Seems odd to have NSX, DB11 and the estate/shooting brake version of the Panamera Turbo in the same category...

Reminds me a bit of when a big Volvo estate car got entered 'by mistake' in the British Touring Car Championship.
