PORSCHE PARTS ASSEMBLED IN THE USA

I was intrigued to see on the rear of my wing mirror glass that it was assembled in USA. It seems strange for a wholly European manufacturer to outsource to the USA.

Not that I took it out to check, but returned to my car yesterday to fund my mirror housing pushed right into the window and the glass badly cracked, caused by a mystery driver perhaps.

Thankfully no damage at to the housing and it works perfectly.
The glass was hanging out on the heating element wires and easy to remove, now refitted temporarily while I order a replacement.
Waiting for a price from OPC, Design 911 is £113, and from £12 on ebay.

Does seem very strange.

Shame about your mirror. At least the housing is OK - what price would that be? - £500

In these circumstances it’s good not to have auto dipping mirrors. They are really expensive!

Yes indeed, perhaps someone broke the glass first??? and then pushed the mirror inwards? I was at the end of a row at the entrance/ exit in a v quiet car park but didn't fold the mirrors in. Hey ho, could have been worse.

John Deere ship stuff all over the world, thus you may buy a tractor assembled in Germany with an axle assembled in USA using mostly parts from Germany!
Bizarre but to some accountant it works that way.

In a similar globale vein, all the new shipping container-based pop-up shops and complexes we see more and more of (certainly around the Bristol docks area) are effectively free in terms of raw materials; there is a glut of containers in the UK as its cheaper for the chinese to fabricate new ones to fill with their tat, than it is for them to ship them back empty.....or so I was told recently.....
