Rab J wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2019 5:50 pm I have to confess that after reading the Autocar first test on the new GT4 got me thinking given the type of driving I do if I might be better chopping the 911 in for one of those, thats if that was possible. But then a 911 is a 911 and difficult to let go even for anything as special as a GT4. Maybe both
If you can afford to own both, and if you can actually get your hands on a 718 GT4, then go for it! :D

Failing that, pick up a pre-718 GT4, which by all accounts is very nearly as good as the newer model.

I love the thought of a GT4, but as my Porsche is a daily driver, my Carrera T is far more practical. And as you say, a 911 is an iconic 911. :)
I doubt I could afford both, nice to dream though. Quite a stretch even in the most deranged of man maths. Word has it that Porsche will sell the new GT4 for the next two years and in greater numbers than before so lets assume its a possibility. So the choice is between a an iconic 911 and a track special GT4.
Depends on how you’d use it and what other car/s you have, Rab. 911 is a usable 2+2 daily driver. GT4 as you say is a weekend track toy. One of the things I love about the 911 is that it’s an icon, a design classic and can be used for pretty much anything apart from lugging around large objects. For that, you can hire a van (if like me, the 911 is your sole car). :geek:

Yes I can see where if you need a daily driver the 911 would be a no brainer over a GT4 but as I haven't yet found anyone to fit a tow bar to the 911 I have something else to do that, so it comes down to a straight choice between a track car and an icon. Simples :?

First world problems, eh!? ;)

Although I'm still sceptical about how easy it will be for us 'ordinary' customers to actually get hold of a new GT4 or Spyder at list price. :?

The upgrades seem to make it feel like you have a new car!

Well done that man!

I like the man maths of spending what you'd have lost when px'ing :-)

Arguably spending quite a lot less than the cost of part-exchanging (bearing in mind my T has now done 20k miles!) And I know the financial pain of trading cars from my previous three swaps! ;)

Most newish 991.2 GTS models at OPCs are £100k or more.

A new 992 with a similar spec to my T would be at least £93,500, with a lot less power & torque.
