Insurance Highwaymen

Post by alxgb » Fri Jan 12, 2018 10:27 pm

Hey Folks

I've been negotiating with the robber barons of insurance and thought I'd ask a few questions of the group:

- I have tended to have all my cars on agreed value. Some insurers are not agreeable (sic) stating I need to own the vehicle for a year before they can do that. I've pointed out that the model has been on the market for a year so residuals are available based on historical data. Computer says no seems to have been the most popular answer upon interrogation. What is everyone else doing?

- Trackers - some are insisting, some are fine without. Having read of a recent theft on the forum, it has given me pause. Has everyone gone with PTS and the pretty basic Vodafone Automotive/CobraTrak? Any suggestions for alternatives? I really don't care about the OPC and warranty BS.

Many thanks

Alex

Try NFU for insurance quote.

Search out Bazzas thread on security as he is the forum expert on said matter, he suggests a specific add on tracker make in the thread.

I insure with NFU btw and they do not require a tracker hence worthwhile asking the question.

I found the Vodafone system poor in the areas I use my car so did not pay for the system at any time in the last two years I have had Macans

Another vote for NFU if they will cover your post code. As for agreed value, they include a basic gap cover for two years, for longer go to a specialist Gap insurer, can't remember the one I used, popular on here.
I have no knowledge of trackers, if mine is stolen, not sure I'd want it back rather than have my gap insurance pay out for a replacement new car.

I've had no issues with Admiral... they did add £19 for my not activating the tracker on purchasing. But refunded when I did, with the curious comment that I "shouldn't have been charged the extra in the first place"?

Try NFU for insurance and get GAP insurance if you can as it’s well worth if the unfortunate should happen. You can get a 3 or 5 year Policy at today’s prices and move the policy to new cars etc. Plenty around on the internet. Most very well established and around for some time.

A year or so ago A number of people had issues with Vodafone service but it does seem that in recent months things may have improved based on forum feedback.

I would recommend a tracker regardless of insurance requiring it. Not expensive in the scale of things and is one of the only realistic chances of getting your car back and not having to make a very big claim. Some don’t want their cars back which is fair enough.
These luxury cars are normally returned with no damage whatsoever.

Alternative trackers available which do NOT invalidate the Porsche warranty and have some additional benefits. MTrack proactive. You own it and move it to any other car you like.
Have a look at these devices. They are very good indeed with an excellent service.
Plenty of YouTube videos from them.

My current insurance Aviva runs out at the end of Jan on my runaround MINI so I have been trying to get quotes for my future 911 today because with the next policy I will have to change it to the 911 after 2 months. Mini is on a buy back deal with a garage.

Mrs spook and i have full clean licences, both retired, Social and Pleasure only, 7K max mies, garaged, about 15 years plus no claims, last claim was in 2001 and it was no fault on our behalf.

Aviva Mini £325 protected and legal (P&L) 911 (with no registration yet) £530. I put a 17 plate reg in and it said telephone, so not looking good.
I have found previously with Aviva when you add the registration the price rockets by about £150 + and they give some bullsh*t about thats the way the system works, even if you selected the exact variant w/o the registration.

NFU Mini £800 P&L !!!! - 911 £ 1165 with £1600 theft excess without tracker.

Saga (because I can) Mini £ 237 P&L - 911 underwriter will not insure it as its purchase value is too high.

LVE Mini £264 P&L - 911 with the same 17 plate reg as Aviva £574 it was the same w/o a registration number.

Direct Line Mini £240 P&L - 911 needed tracker enabled £834.
911 C2 deposit placed 03/08/17 - pickup 14th April 2018 :D :D

NFU wouldn't quote me, as apparently Swindon isn't rural enough!

I went with Manning UK. They seem to specialise in sports cars.

They insured my Panamera 4 for a fair price (only a little more than Admiral) and didn't require a tracker on my £83k car. And my policy includes some tracking too! :o

They seem like a pretty professional set up.

I emailed them at about 8.20am this week enquiring about an estimate for the Carrera T and I had a quote by 8.30am! :)
